    Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophecy of you, saying,

Verse 8:   "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth. amd honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

Verse 9:  But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."    Isaiah 29: 13

             Matthew  15:  7  to  9             ( New International Version )

      You hypocrites!   Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

verse 8: >   "These people honor me with their lips but their hearts are fall from me."

verse 9:  >   They worship me in vain, their teaching are but rules taught by men."  Isaiah 29: 13

      Text  Quoted  in  Spirit of Prophecy

   "Ye hypocrites," He said, addressing the wily spies, "well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Matt. 15: 7-9  The words of Christ were an arraignment of the whole system of Pharisaism. He declared that by placing their requirements above the divine precepts the rabbis were setting themselves above God.  {DA 397.2}

   When the question was asked, "Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread," Christ answered them, "Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; and honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." Thus Christ showed the comparative value of the law of God and their traditions.  {RH, August 29, 1899 par. 7}

   Christ came to implant in the minds of men the great truths of which few knew the value. The Jewish nation had discarded truth for tradition. Christ declared to them, "Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. But in vain do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."  {RH, August 20, 1903 par. 9}
