Showers of Blessing from Above

Showers  of  Blessing  from  Above    was presented by Ted Robertson on Nov. 2010

And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.   Ezekiel 34:26

The Lord has given us counsel, and oddly, this causes us to bless Him

I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel:  my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.    Psalms 16:7

Whatever we need, we should ask for it from God

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.      Matthew 7:7-12

Many of us tend to associate the idea of blessings with material things. So let us tak a moment to explore wealth from a biblical perspective.
In the story of Job, God blessed abundantly after Job when through his trial.

And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.  Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.  So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. He had also seven sons and three daughters.  And he called the name of the first, Jemi'ma; and the name of the second, Kezi'a; and the name of the third, Keren–hap'puch.  And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. So Job died, being old and full of days.     Job 42:10-17

God Blesses abundantly those who love Him

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:

will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.      Psalms 91:14-16

God makes people poor and he makes other people rich

The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.      1 Samuel 2:7-9

Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou should go.   Isaiah 48:17

Wisdom and understanding bring about Long Lifea, Wealth, and Happiness

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding: for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.  She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor.      Proverbs 3:13-16

The Bible also cautions us:  Riches are Deceitful

And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.        Mark 4:18-19

Do Not Trust in Riches

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall:  but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.     Proverbs 11:28

Greed Brings Trouble

He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.     Proverbs 15:27

We are not to set our hearts upon wealth

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.      Psalms 62:10

Loving Money is the Root of all Evil

But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.  And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content.  But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.     1 Timothy 6:6-10

Being Poor with Gid in our lives is Better than Riches and worldly troubles

Better is little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure and trouble therewith.     Proverbs 15:16

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.       Psalms 37:16

Jesus had nowhere to lay his head - he was homeless

And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.      Matthew 8:20

Comment:  If we find ourselves in difficult circumstances, we can remember that Jesus understands our plight since it was his own while here on earth.

We are to be Generous to others

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.     Psalms 41:1-3

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.   Proverbs 11:24-26

I have showed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.  Acts 20:35

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.    Proverbs 19:17

We are assured that the Righteous will be taken care of

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.      Psalms 37:23-25

Jesus taught that God will always take care of us -  and that we are very important to Him

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

All who have chosen God’s service are to rest in His care.  Christ pointed to the birds flying in the heavens, to the flowers of the field, and bade His hearers consider these objects of God’s creation.  “Are not ye of much more value than they?”  He said. Matt. 6:26, R.V.  The measure of divine attention bestowed on any object is proportionate to its rank in the scale of being.  The little brown sparrow is watched over by Providence.  The flowers of the field, the grass that carpets the earth, share the notice and care of our heavenly Father.  The great Master Artist has taken thought for the lilies, making them so beautiful that they outshine the glory of Solomon.  How much more does He care for man, who is the image and glory of God.  He longs to see His children reveal a character after His similitude.  As the sunbeam imparts to the flowers their varied and delicate tints, so does God impart to the soul the beauty of His own character.

All who choose Christ’s kingdom of love and righteousness and peace, making its interest paramount to all other, are linked to the world above, and every blessing needed for this life is theirs. –  Desire of Ages. p. 313

In the message to the Church of our time, Jesus calls us to desire the eternal things rather than the worldly things

And unto the angel of the church of the La-odice’ans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God. I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.   Revelation 3:14-22

In a prelude of our upcoming study about tithes and offerings, we are told by God that by being faithful in our giving, He will open up the windows of heaven and give us more blessings then we can receive.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.    Malachi 3:10

If we seek the kingdom of God, all our earthly concerns will fade away

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.    Matthew 6:25-33

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:  for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.     Matthew 6: 19-21

Finally, no matter what our trials, no matter what our concerns or worries, we are given assurance that all things work together for good

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.     Romans 8:28
