Hebrews 8: 1 - 5 ( King James Version ) |
Now of the things which we have spoken [this is] the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; |
8:2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. |
8:3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore [it is] of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. |
8:4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: |
8:5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, [that] thou make all things according to the pattern showed to thee in the mount. |
Hebrews 8: 1-5 ( New International Version ) |
The point we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Magesty in heaven, |
v. 2 > twho serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. |
v. 3 > Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. |
v. 4 > If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. |
v. 5 > They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and a shodow of what is in heaven. That is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." |
Text Quoted in Spirit of Prophecy |
Turning again to the book of Hebrews, the seekers for truth found that the existence of a second, or new-covenant sanctuary, was implied in the words of Paul already quoted: “Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.” And the use of the word “also” intimates that Paul has before made mention of this sanctuary. Turning back to the beginning of the previous chapter, they read: “Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an High Priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a Minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Hebrews 8:1, 2. { GC 413.1} Read entire Chapter 23 |
“In three days I will raise it up.” In the Saviour’s death the powers of darkness seemed to prevail, and they exulted in their victory. But from the rent sepulcher of Joseph, Jesus came forth a conqueror. “Having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them.” Colossians 2:15. By virtue of His death and resurrection He became the minister of the “true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Hebrews 8:2. Men reared the Jewish tabernacle; men builded the Jewish temple; but the sanctuary above, of which the earthly was a type, was built by no human architect. “Behold the Man whose name is The Branch; ... He shall build the temple of the Lord; and He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His throne; and He shall be a priest upon His throne.” Zechariah 6:12, 13. { DA 165.5} |
The direction given to Moses was, “See ... that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount” ( Hebrews 8:5). Although Moses was full of zeal to do God’s work, and he could have the most skillful, talented men to carry out any suggestions he should make, he must not make a single thing, a bell, a pomegranate, a tassel, or a fringe, or a curtain, or any vessel except according to the pattern showed to him as God’s ideal.... Forty days the communications were given to him, and when he descended to the foot of the mount he was ready to give the exact pattern that was shown to him in the mount.... { HP 147.2} |
