He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Isaiah 61: 1, 2 [20] Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. Acts 10: 42, 43 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. [43] All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. |
God specifically gave the prophecies detailing aspects of Christ's life in advance to reveal who Jesus really is. They are not meant simply to satisfy some intellectual curiosity. The prophet Isaiah even outlined parts of Jesus' ministry in advance. Isaiah wrote: |
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and . . . to comfort all who mourn." Isaiah 61: 1, 2 |
It is important to note that many of the prophecies about Jesus were furfilled in the last 24 hours of his life. |
|
Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? [54] But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way? Matthew 26: 53 - 54 |
Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders. [18] But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that His Christ (Missiah) would suffer. Acts 3: 17, 18 |
